Notice Periods

Both employer and employee are normally entitled to a minimum period of notice of termination of employment.  “Statutory notice” is the notice set down by employment law and after one month’s employment, employers and employees must give each other at least one week’s notice.  An employee is then entitled to 2 weeks’ notice with 2 years’ service and an additional week for each year worked, up to a total of 12 weeks for 12 years’ service or more (the notice period may be longer, depending on what it states in the contract of employment and this is referred to as “contractual notice”).

If you are having problems with receiving your notice pay from your employer or if you have any queries in relation to your notice period/pay, please call the employment team on 0161 834 2623.
