There are different types of noise induced hearing loss (NIHL) symptoms. The typical symptoms of NIHL include:
- Missing parts of a conversation;
- Not being able to hear conversation where there is background noise; and
- Having to turn the television up loud.
The above list is not exhaustive and no two people are the same. Hearing loss symptoms not only vary in severity, but are also heavily dependent on past factors such as the type of protection provided by the employer, the actual exposure to the noise levels and any past or present medical conditions.
Common questions that we use to identify potential symptoms for NIHL are:
- Do you have trouble hearing certain words or phrases?
- Do you often need to ask people to repeat themselves?
- Are conversations muffled and difficult to hear?
- Do your family complain that you talk loudly?
- Do you need the TV louder than other people?
- Do you sometimes not hear the doorbell?
- Do you have trouble hearing the telephone when it rings?
- If there is background noise do you struggle to follow a conversation?
If you answer ‘yes’ to any of the above questions, it is likely that you do have an issue with your hearing. You may want to get in contact with your GP to diagnose the noise damage. Alternatively, please speak to one of our NIHL specialist solicitors and we will set up a medical assessment for you subject to the acceptance of your case.
