What is Noise Induced Hearing Loss?
Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) – which is also known as Occupational Deafness and Industrial Hearing Loss – is caused by exposure to loud noise over a prolonged period of time. The condition is acquired through exposure to excessive noise levels which damages the cells inside the inner ear leading to a deterioration of your hearing as well as tinnitus (a ringing, buzzing or muffling in the ears).
NIHL is a work related condition that is common in industries where excessive noise is predominate and typically occurs where noisy machinery is used.
Noise Induced Hearing Loss is caused by long-term exposure to noise and unfortunately, it can take many years before significant hearing problems arise.
