Road accident victim awarded £50,000 compensation

A woman has been awarded £50,000 compensation after she sustained physical and psychological injury in a road accident.

She had been stationary at traffic lights when another motorist collided with the rear of her car.

She sustained an injury to her spine, causing pain and stiffness to both her shoulders.

Other symptoms included pins and needles in her left hand which lasted for over a year.

She also demonstrated signs of post-traumatic stress disorder, suffering from flashbacks of the accident and becoming prone to anxiety and depression. She underwent treatment to help with her physical and psychological symptoms.

She was unable to continue work in the business she owned with her husband. This meant that they had to turn work away and eventually take on an employee. She also needed help with housework and gardening.

The final medical report said that her physical symptoms were unlikely to improve and she would need more psychological treatment as the previous programme had been ineffective.

The woman took legal action against the driver saying he had been negligent in driving too fast, failing to brake in time and colliding with her vehicle.

The driver admitted liability and the woman was awarded £50,000 compensation to cover her pain, suffering and loss of amenity, as well as her care costs and loss of earnings.
