Compensation for woman burnt during hair removal treatment

A woman has received £3,500 compensation after suffering burns to her skin during laser hair removal treatment.

The 54-year-old woman went for treatment on her arms in 2012. The process wasn’t carried out correctly and she sustained mild, superficial burns on her arms, with peeling and discolouring. She had to cover up her arms at work and during social occasions for three to four months.

She needed help for two weeks to carry out domestic chores and was unable to fully enjoy a holiday because her arms had to be constantly shielded from the sun. The burns were very painful and affected her confidence.

She was fully recovered after four months and took legal action against the clinic. The owners admitted that they had been negligent in failing to properly cool her arms before and after treatment, and by applying hot massage oils to her skin immediately after treatment.

The two sides agreed an out-of-court settlement of £3,500 to compensate the woman for her pain, suffering and loss of amenity.
