Man awarded £3,000 after being injured by pub chair

A 63-year-old man has been awarded £3,000 compensation after he injured his finger with a pub chair.

The man had been having a coffee in a pub when he gripped the bottom of the chair to pull it closer to the table. He injured his fingers when they got caught between the frame of the chair and the seat.

He suffered a fracture to his little finger, and lost his fingernail and nail bed. He had to attend hospital and take a week off work.

He recovered from most of his injuries after seven weeks.

However, there was still a tingling feeling in his finger and a stiffness to the tip. Those symptoms were expected to last until 15 months after the incident.

The man took legal action against the pub, claiming it was negligent in failing to keep him safe while he was on its premises.

The pub admitted liability and agreed to an out-of-court settlement of £3,000 to cover the man’s pain, suffering and loss of amenity.
